COTE DE PABLO
“I loved ‘Boxed In.’ It was my first year — the third season — and it took place literally inside a box. And it was really hot, and we had to pretend that it was really cold. We were wearing a lot of clothing, so with the fire you see there, it was really intense to shoot. As I’m talking about it, I’m like, oh my God, I can’t believe I’m saying I like it, because I know the writers are gonna write another one that’s gonna be such a traumatic experience again! But I loved the outcome of the episode, and it was so wonderful to work in that.’
‘I loved ‘Truth or Consequences.’ I was barely in it, but I thought it was a fantastic show—you know, the show where Michael goes to Baghdad with McGee [to rescue Ziva]. I loved McGee in that episode. And I loved the moment in the end when Gibbs comes out and he’s wearing his desert gear, and the rescue, and coming back.”
PAULEY PERRETTE
“Last season, the episode ‘Cracked,’ where Abby becomes obsessed with the girl who had the writing all over her arms and the computations. It became this triple obsession. Because she was obsessed with these theories and figuring out this thing, the (dead) character was. And then Abby got obsessed with her, and then I, Pauley, got obsessed with both of them. So I went through an entire two weeks there (where I felt) like I was gonna end up finding myself in the middle of the night writing theorems on the wall. It was pretty taxing. I definitely took that one home with me. But an awesome, excellent episode.”
” ‘Frame Up,’ which I thought was some of Michael Weatherly’s best work, was so good.’
‘We just did one of our particularly absolutely hilarious episodes [episode 201], and that reminded me of ‘Bikini Wax,’ which is in season 2. When we first got it, I didn’t really understand how it was gonna work, and it just ended up being hilarious. Sometimes that happens. It starts with Ducky and a bathing suit contest… One of my favorite moments is where Michael Weatherly’s character at the end sees the picture of Agent Kate when she was in college in a bikini on the wall, and he’s drunk and he can’t stop laughing.”
MICHAEL WEATHERLY
“I’ll be bold and I’ll say episode 200 isn’t the first episode of the show you should ever watch. (Laughs) This is not for those people. ‘Truth or Consequences’ is a good one if you’ve never watched the show. You know, that season premiere from season 7, where I’m tied to a chair, and then explaining who everyone is. That’s a good one. THAT’s a recap.
“I loved ‘Chained’ with Frank Whaley, and I loved ‘Requiem,’ diving into the water with Gibbs… ‘Frame Up’ is where I go to jail. Don Bellisario’s son, Michael Bellisario, played Chip, who was an insane assistant to Abby who framed me for this crime and used my teeth indentation and blood samples and totally set me up and put me in prison. It was a great episode…
“Maybe our greatest guest actor is Joe Spano, unheralded in many ways for the yeoman effort. Every time, that guy knocks it out of the park. ‘Devil’s Triangle’ [from the current season]—I think maybe that would go in my pantheon of favorite shows. And Joe was there in ‘Yankee White.’ He was in episode 001—not counting the ‘JAGs,’ as Pauley will point out.
” ‘Boxed In,’ that’s an amazing one. That’s me and Cote in a crate. The funny thing about ‘Boxed In’ is, we had to do a gunfight… She was a rookie at that point… She didn’t understand that every time, you have to wear ear protection… We thought maybe we’d really (messed) up her hearing. Which maybe explains some of the malapropisms. Maybe she just doesn’t hear very well, after that particular episode!”
